MOUNT ARAFAT - Grand Mufti Abdul Aziz ibne Abdullah al-Sheikh has said that Islam as a religion shuns aggression and called upon the believers to follow Islam in its true sense to overcome the challenges they are facing.In his Haj Sermon at Masjid-e-Namra in Maidan-e-Arafat on Thursday, the Grand Mufti said that Islam is being maligned in the name of freedom of speech and democracy. Terming all discussions against Shari’ah as propaganda, he made it clear that blasphemy would not be tolerated.
But he said there was no place for violence and aggression in Islam. Urging the pilgrims to respect all nations, he said it is the prime responsibility of the Muslims not to harm anyone on the basis of caste‚ creed and religion.The Mufti-e-Azam also said there was no association between terrorism and Islam, and he declared suicide haram (against Islam). He told the Muslims that Islam teaches patience and tolerance and abhors all types of violence in the society.He said the world of Islam has been entangled in problems and hardships but Islam is the only way out. He stressed that the Islamic system of governance was better than a fake democracy and political problems can be solved through dialogue.He called upon all Muslims to unite and help each other, saying they can overcome all difficulties with their solidarity. He also said the Muslims should use their wealth for promotion of knowledge; if they want progress, they have to move towards the technology.He asked the rulers of Muslim states to work for resolution of the problems being faced by the people. He said the Ummah will have to work for improving their economies to overcome socio-economic and political problems. He stressed the need for setting up a Muslim economic bloc and Muslims must bring back money to their states from abroad. The Mufti also urged the Muslims to bring their wealth back to the Muslim community, saying that they will have to solve their problems through their own means.The Mufti said: “We can implement Islam by following the Sunnah of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).” He urged the Muslims to better prepare their children so they become good Muslims and play their due role in establishing a peaceful society.Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh said Islam is the only religion which has to stay and every Muslim should work to preach its teachings. The Muslims should follow teachings of Islam to promote peace and brotherhood in the whole world, he added.Earlier, over two million Haj pilgrims, after overnight stay in Mina, started their journey to Mount Arafat after Fajr prayers. At Mount Arafat, around 14 kilometres southeast of Mina, the pilgrims spent the day in prayer and reflection. After sunset, they were set to move on to Muzdalifah, halfway between Mount Arafat and Mina, where they would spend whole night offering prayers in open sky.
