ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court on Friday blocked Rs24 billion worth of funds allocated for 732 non-development projects under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) in Balochistan.
A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja heard a petition filed by Abdul Rahim, leader of the Pakhtunkhwa Millih Awami Party.
The bench asked the provincial government to constitute an independent commission for the forensic audit of all PSDP schemes undertaken during the last four years in Balochistan.
During the proceedings, Balochistan Advocate General Amanullah Kinrani told the bench that the provincial government had issued a notification regarding the constitution of a three-member commission to probe alleged corruption in non-development projects, which, he said was caused by the previous government.
On the other hand, counsel for another applicant, Shakeel Ahmad, objected to the formation of the commission. The hearing of the case was adjourned for four weeks.
